School Nurse - Position requires a current Montana Registered Nurse license. A BSN is required; prior public health and/or school nursing experience are preferred. This is a .55 FTE position, Nursing positions are part of the teachers' salary matrix group. Beginning pay range is from $30.33 per hour to $43.42 per hour depending on education and experience.

Currently hiring for a variety of positions including part-time, full-time, permanent and temporary assignments. Position Description







Position Title: School Nurse,

Department: Student Services

Reports To: Administrator, Student Services

Date: 9/20/2012





SUMMARY: Maintains health files on all children as required by law or guidelines. Oversees and/or arranges necessary care for children whose health status does not meet requirements.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.



1. Conducts school health services, including physical assessments, tests for visual acuity, scoliosis screening, personal health counseling, and appropriate emergency health services.

2. Observes student on a regular basis to detect health needs and assumes the responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care.

3. Reports to and gathers information from parents, medical matters, and advises teachers and principals as they relate to the individual student.

4. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records on all students and provides supervision to all auxiliary health care workers.

5. Makes home visits when indicated for effective management of health problems.

6. Participates as an advisor, consultant, and expert resource person for school staff in developing and implementing the needs of individual students.

7. Provides recommendations to Administration for exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.

8. Assists school personnel in establishing optimal environment health conditions in the schools.

9. Actively participates in committee meetings and conferences regarding school health services, curriculum and environmental safety.

10. Participates in and contributes to Child Study Team meetings in determining eligibility for special education services and in developing individual educational programs for those students who qualify.

11. Performs other jobs or duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Registered Nurse with a minimum of 1 year experience in a school setting.





CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Registered Nurse.



LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.





REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.



OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication. Knowledge and use of C.P.R., First Aid and Heimlich maneuver.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to run; stoop and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must occasionally push items of 50 lbs. such as pushing children on a bike or moving/rearranging furniture. While performing the duties of the job the employee occasionally may visit a child's homes. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
