BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of grade level(s) or instructional specialty(ies) to which assigned; knowledge of child growth and development; knowledge of Prince William County Public Schools curricula, program of studies related to assignments and public school mission, goals, and organization; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons using the Standards-Based Instructional Planning Process and based on Division and school objectives, and the needs and abilities of assigned students; ability to utilize multi-media and computer technology, as appropriate; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, parents, and administrators; skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills, possess leadership qualities, presentation, facilitation, organizational skills, and personal characteristics to work effectively with teachers, students, administrators, parents, and the community; and successful experience designing and delivering professional development to adults, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to formulate ideas and communicate them effectively. PWCS is interested in candidates with Reading Specialist certification, Reading Recovery® certification, attendance in Support the Practice of Reading and Writing Theory in the Elementary Classroom (SPOT), or other specialized coursework in literacy.

STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a Collegiate Professional or Post Graduate Professional teaching license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with appropriate elementary or middle school endorsement. Must be considered Highly Qualified according to the State of Virginia.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: If assigned off-site tasks or serving as an itinerant, possession of a valid automobile operator's license to operate a vehicle in Virginia is required.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

Under the general supervision of a principal and or other designated administrator, plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in grades K-8. Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required; carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities; performs related duties as assigned. Will also provide instructional coaching; plan and facilitate professional development; lead and support Professional Learning communities relating to literacy.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

• Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in providing a World-Class Education.
• Assist with screening, scheduling, and enrolling students in the Title I program according to Title I guidelines.
• Implement an instructional program, which provides appropriate learning for each student by differentiating instruction.
• Plan appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities using the most current research and most proven instructional strategies in the field of reading and writing.
• Plan and deliver instruction in adherence to the Prince William County Public Schools Curriculum documents regarding specific teaching assignments.
• Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.
• Manage the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process, and assist and participate in management of student behavior in other parts of the school on school grounds.
• Cooperate with and participate in the planning and the evaluation of the school program by analyzing data in order to affect the instructional program for students.
• Participate in the professional development program of the schools and School Division by attending Division-sponsored sessions for Title I teachers to keep informed of Division, state, and federal policies, procedures, and initiatives.
• Participate in locally-offered professional development to further personal knowledge and expertise in the teaching of literacy.
• Enforce policies and regulations as established by the Prince William County School Board and staff in accordance with any program guidelines.
• Keep parents and the school community at large involved with and informed of the school's literacy program, including coordinating parent meetings as a requirement of Title I at least three times per year.
• Meet with parents of Title I students on a regular basis to keep them informed of student progress and send home progress reports quarterly.
• Meet with classroom teachers of Title I students and any other specialists who work with Title I students on a regular basis to coordinate instruction and to share student information.
• Attend and/or contribute to Child Intervention meetings or any other school team meeting when assigned Title I students are involved.
• Serve as a liaison between the Title I Office, schools, and other administrative offices.
• Demonstrate expertise in the use of data for making instructional decisions.
• Maintain regular and ongoing communication and collaborative working relationships with colleagues regarding job responsibilities, professionalism, work priorities, and deadlines.
• Demonstrate prompt and accurate written communications and reports including completing and submitting necessary paperwork according to Title 1 and school guidelines.

• Serve in a literacy leadership role at the school which may include leading the literacy committee, coordinate reading incentive programs, ongoing development of the school's literacy plan.
• Coordinate professional development to support teachers to improve and sustain student achievement which could include: leading inservice sessions, demonstration lessons, co-planning, co-teaching, observations with growth-producing feedback, and facilitation of teacher reflection.
• Follow the ethics of the profession.
• Adhere to county and school disciplinary procedures.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
