The Chicago Leadership Collaborative aims to develop a pipeline of highly qualified school leaders equipped to meet our district's needs. Our unique partnership with leading principal development programs allows us to provide selected Resident Principals theoretical grounding, practical experience, and tailored leadership coaching. At the end of the training year, Resident Principals will be prepared to lead schools of their own.

All candidates interested in the CLC Residency must first be accepted into an approved leadership preparation program affiliated with the Chicago Leadership Collaborative. The programs approved for the SY21 school year are: National Louis University, New Leaders, and University of Illinois at Chicago.

In order to be eligible to apply, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A commitment to secure a CPS Principal role within two years and remain in District for a minimum of four years post-Residency

  • Experience leading adults in a school setting towards strategic goals with evidence of positive impact in this role

  • A minimum of four years of teaching experience with evidence of positive student growth in the most recent two years

  • A rating of proficient or higher on the candidate's two most recent performance evaluations

  • An active Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License or Educator License with Stipulations (out of state) - must be earned before June 30, 2020

  • Able to earn Illinois State Board of Education Principal Endorsement by July 31, 2020


In addition, the district is seeking candidates with experience in the following Priority Areas:

In accordance with the CLC contract, we are seeking candidates in the following areas:

  • Aspiring fluent bilingual candidates;

  • Aspiring candidates with demonstrated ability to increase student achievement and lead in a

comprehensive high school ;

Aspiring candidates with demonstrated ability to increase student achievement and lead schools in need of intensive support ;

Aspiring candidates who have held prior leadership positions , such as Instructional Support Leader, Content Specialist, Instructional Effectiveness Specialist, or Assistant Principal;

Aspiring candidates who hold a valid PEL Administrative Endorsement from the Illinois State Board of Education
