Saint Ignatius College Prep is a Catholic, Jesuit, urban, co-educational, college preparatory high school with 1,450 students in grades 9-12. Founded in 1869, the mission of the school is to prepare its diverse populations of students for lives grounded in faith and characterized by integrity, lifelong learning, leadership, and compassionate service for others.
Position Description: The Sullivan Visiting Professor (SVP) is a master teacher and scholar. As such, the SVP will demonstrate a high standard of academic prowess. The Visiting Professor will also serve to motivate superior Math students in their pursuit of knowledge. The SVP reports to and is directly responsible to the Math Department Chair.

Saint Ignatius College Prep seeks applications for a part-time visiting professor of mathematics. Position Description: The Sullivan Visiting Professor (SVP) is a master teacher and scholar. As such, the SVP will demonstrate a high standard of academic prowess. The Visiting Professor will also serve to motivate superior Math students in their pursuit of knowledge. The SVP reports to and is directly responsible to the Math Department Chair.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or a Ph.D. candidate in mathematics or a math-related subject
- Teaching experience at the high school or college level with demonstrated competencies to teach mathematics through verbal and written communications.
- Willingness to work with a talented and motivated student population and faculty
- College level teaching experience, preferred
- Practicing Roman Catholic, preferred
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching two or three mathematics courses (These courses will be part of the Mathematics Department class offerings, and will be negotiated between the Mathematics Department Chair; the Assistant Principal for Academics in consultation with the Principal; and the SVP.)
- Working collaboratively with the Mathematics Department on developing curriculum for courses
- Creating and subsequently offering a forum, the "Sullivan Symposium," for focused intellectual engagement in a topic or topics of contemporary interest in mathematics and/or the teaching of mathematics
- Collaborating with the Assistant Principal for Academics (in consultation with the Principal) and Mathematics Department faculty to determine the form and substance of the Sullivan Symposium
- Attending Parent Conferences (held once each semester)
- Complying with all requirements of faculty members at Saint Ignatius College Prep as found in the "Faculty Handbook"
- Attending designated events and being profiled in school publications
- Writing a summative reflection at the end of the year highlighting achievements and suggestions for improving the program
Work Schedule and Salary
- Ten Months - approximately August 10 through June 10
- Salary based on qualifications and experience
