POSITION SUMMARY

The technology teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student an awareness of the role of technology in education. The teacher develops a project based curriculum that supports the use of all forms of technology (appropriate use of computers, their functions, Microsoft Office programs, use of instructional video, etc.) and its motor skill requirements (typing, drag/drop, toggle, etc.) in alignment to the use of technology in research and writing supported in Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) in alignment to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Principal, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Supervises: Students, volunteers

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Teaches skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in technology education to studentsDevelops/submits typed, weekly, lesson plansPlans a technology education program involving demonstrations, discussions, and student experiments; organizes activities for optimal learning.Instructs students in the proper use, care and safe handling of equipment.Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment during class sessions and field trips.Evaluates each student's growth in knowledge and skills in the course being taught.Communicates with parents on the students' progress.Supervises students in assigned activities.Participates in committees and the sponsorship of student activities.Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices.Implements the use of varied software systems.Assist with district-wide progress report and report card printing.Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.Participates in various student and parent activities which occur before and/or after-school activities.Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in educationMust have an Illinois teaching certificate with the appropriate endorsement to teach Technology Education.Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
