Austin Achieve Public Schools is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school preparing East Austin youth to attend and excel at the nation’s top colleges and universities. The Special Education Paraprofessional will be a key member of our team at Austin Achieve, ensuring strong support for scholars on their path to success. This role will assist in the implementation of scholars’ Individual educational plan (IEP), providing inclusion support for students in the general education and resource classroom(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the implementation of the IEP.
  • Provides assistance to teacher in using instructional materials.
  • Instructs students and groups of students under the teacher’s direction.
  • Assists students with learning activities.
  • Accompanies students to mainstream settings working under the direction of the classroom teacher, including the cafeteria, library, field trips, assemblies, pep rallies, and other activities.
  • Assists in monitoring and control of student behavior in the classroom and other areas.
  • Assists in the implementation and documentation of the student behavior management plan as directed by behavior specialist/teacher.
  • Gives physical assistance to students as needed, including toileting, feeding, positioning, locomotion, and other services.
  • Assists and/or monitors the transportation of students.
  • Assists in collating information and preparing reports/data collection.
  • Obtains and communicates information regarding student progress for upcoming ARDs.
  • Assists in implementation of testing accommodations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum High school diploma or Bachelor's degree (strongly preferred).
  • Strong commitment to serving economically disadvantaged scholars and scholars with limited English proficiency.
  • Thrives on collaboration and building relationships with scholars and colleagues.
  • Willingness to do whatever it takes to help scholars achieve their goals.
  • Flexibility and ability to handle stress in difficult and challenging situations.
