Screening Procedures :

1. Receipt of a completed application, resume and cover letter
2. A minimum of three current written letters of reference from previous or current directors, principal, and supervisors
3. Personal interview

Minimum Requirement :

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
2. Appropriate Standard Pennsylvania School Nurse Certificate
3. Preferred experience in an urban school setting
4. The following are required:

• PA Criminal clearances
• PA Child Abuse clearances
• FBI clearances
• Physical including TB Test

• Proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

General Duties and Responsibilities

The school nurse is a registered professional nurse certified with the PA Department of Education working in the school setting who strengthens and facilitates the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children.

The major focus of school nursing services is the prevention of illness and disability, and the early detection and correction of health problems. The school nurse is uniquely qualified in preventive health, health assessment, and referral procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Administer over the counter and prescription medicine.
• Provide First Aid for minor injuries
• Ensure health and safety of students and staff
• Communicate specific student health needs (allergies, special diets) to staff
• Medical record keeping
• Communicate with parents
• Make sure that all student health forms are accurate.
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Other Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Preferred 2 years Nursing experience in a public school
• Thorough knowledge of state policies and practices affecting public school nursing
• Experience instructing students in health and nutrition education
• Ability to treat confidential information with sensitivity
• Ability to effectively interact with parents, students and teachers
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Great interpersonal skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Good technology skills
