SUMMARY
Under general supervision, coordinates with the Program Manager to implement GEAR UP activities for students, parents, and staff.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Coordinate GEAR UP services for students and parents to prepare them for post-secondary success including college visits, organizing college information sessions, career awareness activities, financial aid workshops, and scholarship research and information sessions.
  • Act as the primary contact for matters related to GEAR UP between the school, post-secondary institutions and non-school partners.
  • Assist with coordinating the distribution of mentoring and tutoring programs for MPS GEAR UP students.
  • Ensure that students receive the necessary and proper accommodations, modifications, and services that are mandated by their individualized education plan (IEP).
  • Develop and promote a strong sense of community and involvement between families, schools, and MPS GEAR UP programs.
  • Attend GEAR UP Site Coordinator meetings and trainings, and provide feedback to school teams.
  • Track student, parent and school personnel participation in activities; collect student participation and performance data; assist in administering GEAR UP surveys.
  • Collaborate within the school team to develop and analyze program plan.
  • Collect, compile and deliver school-level data required for the GEAR UP evaluation; prepare school-level project reports and all documentation required for the grant; provide information in a timely manner to project manager for quarterly and annual reports.
  • Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; act in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Enthusiastically promote the Superintendent's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines Bachelor's Degree preferably in Education, Social Sciences, or related field; AND two (2) years of professional experience in middle or high school organizations and/or college admissions or transitions from high school; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Knowledge of:
  • Applicable policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment
  • Post-secondary education options, application procedures and admission requirements, including financial aid and scholarship opportunities
  • State and Federal laws governing public sector grant funding programs.
  • Local community resources, regional community service programs, and regional training programs
  • Computer software applications related to duties
  • Principles of record keeping and records management

Skill in:
  • Advocating for, motivating, recruiting, and engaging youth in their own planning process
  • Connecting youth to community institutions, resources, and supportive adults including mentors and role models
  • Evaluating and adjusting programs based on outcome measurement and data
  • Program coordination, including completion of tasks in a timely manner, and within budget
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member to plan, design, operate and evaluate school-based programming to achieve project goals
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands
  • Providing effective customer service, and dealing tactfully and courteously with the public
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Minnesota State Driver's License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.

Final candidates may be invited to interview with a committee. Final appointment to this position will be contingent upon passing a criminal background check.
