The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates for a full-time Middle and High School Spanish teaching position for the 2020-2021 school year.

The ideal candidate is a creative, charismatic educator with native or near-native Spanish proficiency, a proven record of enacting ACTFL standards in everyday instruction, strong background in second language acquisition, experience and/or training in curriculum development, and 3 or more years of successful teaching in a variety of language levels in middle school. Preference given to candidates who also have experience teaching at the high school level.

The ideal candidate will have experience with project based learning and experiential education, demonstrated success at and enjoy working as an active member of a team. The candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, have a strong record of positive behavior management, is comfortable with and skilled at working with a range of learners, and enjoys working with young adolescents.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching 3-4 Spanish classes to middle school students in grades 6-8;
  • Teaching 1-2 Spanish classes to high school students in grades 9-12;
  • Participation in team meetings to define and refine curricula;
  • Teaching a weekly advisory or other experiential education course;
  • Sponsoring and overseeing a Spanish club;
  • Participating in team meetings to discuss student progress;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Candidates should have at least three years of successful teaching experience in collaborative working environments. Experience in differentiated instruction, collaborative problem solving, and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred.
