SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS - Longmeadow, Massachusetts

A premiere public school system in New England is seeking a new Superintendent of Schools

Longmeadow Massachusetts is conveniently located 25 minutes north of Hartford, 90 minutes from Boston, and 2.5 hours from New York City and Cape Cod. The community is approximately 9 square miles in area, with an estimated 2008 population of 16,000. While primarily a residential community, Longmeadow also has a vibrant small business center and is rich in history and tradition.

The community of Longmeadow has demonstrated strong support for its schools. Recently completed elementary school expansion and renovation projects as well as the feasibility study to determine the long term building solution for Longmeadow High School, were funded through debt exclusion overrides. An operational override, passed in 2007, provided additional funding for the district. An educational foundation, LEEF, provides annual support for technology upgrades and teacher-initiated grant proposals, and the district benefits from an exceptionally high level of volunteerism in the schools.

The seven- member School Committee is steadfast in its commitment to its schools and students, and recognizes the success of its educational program is dependent upon the quality of its teachers, administrators, coaches, and advisors.

Longmeadow students excel in classrooms, on the stage, in the art rooms and on the playing fields. Over 95% of our graduates pursue a post-secondary education and over 80% of our students participate in one or more co-curricular activities. Longmeadow enrolls 3,100 students in Grades K-12 and has a current FY10 budget of just over $31 million dollars.

The vacancy is due to the retirement of the current Superintendent, who has served the district with distinction for 12 years, including 4 years as Superintendent of Schools. The Superintendent leads an exceptional administrative team comprised of the following; Assistant Superintendent, Business Manager; Director of Pupil Services; Director of Technology and six building administrators. All collaborate with Longmeadow’s nearly 285 professional staff and nearly 140 support staff in providing a superb educational program in a school district committed to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
