If you are an innovative thinker who is looking for a challenge to lead early childhood education to the next level, then The Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), Division of Early Childhood Education and Development wants you!  OSSE is seeking a mission-driven visionary and committed leader to join the agency as the Assistant Superintendent of Early Childhood Education.  In this role you will be responsible for the leadership and oversight of high quality early learning education programs through compliance of all federal, state and
local guidelines.

The Assistant Superintendent of Early Childhood Education will be responsible for providing overall leadership and  advocacy for early learning programming in the District of Columbia (DC) and  build critical partnerships that will ensure that young children are prepared for K-12 success.  Lead efforts to expand access to high quality infant and toddler offerings. Lead efforts directed at strong support for the workforce.  Lead efforts to ensure adequate facilities.  Lead policies aimed at improving and supporting the sector. Lead and cultivate early learning programs to ensure that DC fosters an early learning model that is widely-recognized at the national level.  Lead key meetings with internal and external stakeholders collaboratively working to achieve State early learning goals. Coordinate all early learning material development; and participate in leading, teaching, and training at stakeholder professional development and learning sessions.  Work to support coordinated policies, services and programs across early learning, early intervention, health and family support, so that children and families are prepared for the first day of kindergarten. Lead efforts to implement a kindergarten entry assessment that provides information on the status of children’s development and learning at kindergarten entry, consistent with the Mayor’s Raise DC Initiative and the Early Childhood Framework.
