Principal, Innovation Zone Schools

Under the general direction of the Chief of School Operations and the MCS Innovation Zone, the visionary principal serves as the chief administrative officer and instructional leader of the school; is responsible for the management, instructional supervision and operation of the school; provides instructional leadership that dramatically leads to school improvement. A commitment to school turnaround mission and to making a difference in high needs communities. Proven school leadership experience with demonstrated success improving underperforming student achievement. Experience building effective teams committed to school's vision and mission. A record of past accomplishments as an innovative and student-centered educator and as an ardent supporter of public education. A demonstrated ability to promote and sustain a positive school culture and climate and rigorous instructional program that supports the whole student and is conducive to high performance and staff professional growth. An extensive background and expertise in the areas of curriculum, instruction, program assessment and data analysis. A proven, participatory management and leadership style that fosters a climate of high expectations, collaboration, maintains accountability and emphasizes steadfast focus on the success of student. An understanding of using value-added assessment as a tool to raise and accelerate student achievement.

Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in transformation and turnaround schools.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include:
-Leads the on-going development of the vision and mission of the school consistent with MCS goals that drives student achievement and college and career readiness for all students in collaboration with all stakeholders.
-Plans, organizes, guides, evaluates and directs the implementation of all school activities including instruction, building administration, communication, staffing and pupil services in a new school.
-Uses student baseline and trend data to develop measurable instructional goals to make informed decisions regarding the school?s programs of instruction.
-Aligns school resources and prioritizes activities to achieve maximum results based on vision and goals.
-Leads in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program by understanding the individual needs of students in the program and assess the programs designed to meet those needs.
-Provides proactive, comprehensive and facilitative leadership for the school in the planning and the implementation of a challenging. curriculum that supports the common core standards and project based learning.
-Knowledge of policies and procedures related to school operations.
-Has awareness and sensitivity to and support issues of diversity.
-Understands and effectively communicates research based practices for effective school transitions.
-Effectively identifies and engages stakeholders, parents and community, to drive consensus, build trust and facilitates change.
-Encourages learning and provides consistently instruction, expectations, feedback, and other development activities to encourage leadership and build capacity.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Admin Supv K-8, Admin Supv 7-12, Beg Adm PreK-12-A, Beg Adm PreK-12-B, Prof Adm PreK-12-A, Prof Adm PreK-12-B

Education Requirement
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration, and elementary or secondary curriculum required
Minimum Qualifications
Tennessee School Principal Certification required

- Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience as a school district administrator

- Completion of an administrative internship and/or 3 years experience as a principal. This includes UEC Cohort and NLNS Cohorts.

- Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered
