Brief Description:

The Area Supervisor manages one or more operational programs in the Transportation Department.

Detailed Description:
This position is tasked with ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of school children in an operational program or programs,
such as regional daily operations, special needs, or pupil safety. This position also supervises lead drivers, provides employee training, and oversees other programs as needed.

Roles and Responsibilities:
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to
the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed
appropriate:
* Manages day-to-day pupil transportation programs within assigned areas.
* Observes and evaluates performance of bus drivers, attendants, and lead drivers.
* Handles employee discipline to include compiling and presenting written disciplinary action and performance
improvement plans.
* Develops bus routes, familiarizes drivers with new or revised routes, and monitors routes for safety and
efficiency.
* Instructs bus drivers regarding student disciplinary management and safety procedures related to the
transportation of school children including the use of safety devices, approaching stops, loading and unloading,
and the use of emergency equipment.
* Monitors road and sidewalk conditions during inclement weather and provides feedback to Transportation
leadership.
* Coordinates snow removal at school bus parking locations within assigned areas.
* Substitutes for bus drivers when necessary.

Job Requirements:
Below are the qualifications for this position:
* High school graduate or GED equivalent, minimum of four years of driving experience, and minimum age of 20.
* Possess a Commercial Driver's License with school bus endorsement for a minimum of three years and a
completed physician's certificate (School Bus Driver's Application for Physician Certificate, form EB.001) which
is required under the provision of Section 22.1-178 of the Code of Virginia and Regulations of the Virginia
Board of Education) with controlled substance testing, annual physical examinations, and random tests for use
of controlled substances and alcohol, as prescribed by the Virginia Board of Education and Loudoun County
Public Schools.
* Knowledge of school bus operations, traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, pupil transportation,
personnel management, and/or school fleet maintenance and management.
* Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents; demonstrate excellent written and verbal
communication skills; carry out written and oral instructions; and operate a two-way radio.
* Possess strong time management and organization skills.
* Exhibit the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

fingers to operate computer keyboards; and to feel shapes, size, and temperature of objects. The employee is regularly
required to maneuver the aisle of bus with ease and may be required to lift up to approximately 50 pounds.

This is an Exempt position.
