ABOUT THE DISTRICT

Jeffco Public Schools, Colorado's largest K-12 school district, with 85,000 students and approximately 14,000 employees, has provided educational excellence for more than 60 years. Nearly 10 percent of all Colorado K-12 students attend a Jeffco school and our employees benefit from partnerships with experienced, dynamic school leaders throughout our district. Our Jeffco Generations vision document and strategic plan map out with focus and clarity what we expect our schools to accomplish with our graduates. Come join us!

ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Ken Caryl Middle School (KCMS) is part of the Columbine High School articulation area, which includes high and low socio-economic diversity. We currently serve 633 students in grades 7-8, with approximately 125 of whom are in our GT center program; we also have a center-based program to support students with severe needs. For the 2019-2020 school year, we will be transitioning all 6th grade students in the Columbine articulation area into our school.

At KCMS, we believe in a shared leadership approach to empower our staff to make informed decisions that impact our school and student learning. Our modified schedule includes a combination of 7-period days and 4-period block days, as well as a rotating schedule. This allows students to take three electives or exploratory classes per semester. We are a PLC school where teachers have two plan periods per day, which allows every teacher to engage in collaborative meetings for 250 minutes per week, both with their departments (same content) and teams (same students).

We strive on developing the whole-child through our positive behavior program, PRIDE. KCMS is a partner with New Tech Network which combines project-based learning, an engaging school-wide culture, and real-world use of technology and tools. All students have a personal chromebook to allow for them to connect with the world around them through innovative classroom learning.
