Under the general supervision of the Ground Foreman or Asst. Grounds Foreman, operates trucks and pulls trailers in excess of 10,000 lbs., tractors or other similar grounds maintenance equipment belonging to the Pittsburgh School District as well as performing all tasks required under the Grounds Laborer.

Salary:
Local 297 Salary Schedule ($23.71 per hour)

Work Year: 12 months

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Qualifications:
- High School diploma required.

- Pennsylvania State Pesticide License - Category 23 preferred.

- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania State motor vehicle operator?s license.

- Clean driving record required. Knowledge of City of Pittsburgh traffic laws required.

- Strong oral and written communication skills required.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Must possess operational knowledge of the following vehicles/equipment:
- School District vehicles both standard and automatic transmissions, tractors with various attachments, riding field rollers, and riding field markers.
- Lawn mowers, various gas and hand trimmers, weed bars, seed spreaders, pruners, wood chippers, fertilizers, sprayers, field markers, spray paint markers and generators.

2. Operates heavy equipment such as riding and walk behind tractors, power saws, truck plows, riding field rollers, riding leaf vacuums, etc.

3. Directs work crew of Grounds Laborers.

4. Acts as a liaison between work crews and school officials (i.e.: confirm where vegetation is to be planted, removed, etc.).

5. Transports supplies to buildings and assists in loading/unloading supplies.

6. Transports tools, equipment, parts and materials to various sites.

7. Helps with the storage of all athletic equipment and deliveries.

8.Reports all safety/security issues to Grounds Foreman or Head Custodian.

9. Checks over and completes routine maintenance of vehicles as necessary.

10. Trims hedges and shrubbery using hand, gas and electric trimmers.

11. Prunes trees using chainsaws, pull pruners and hand saw. Loads pieces into truck for disposal.

12. Removes dead and undesirable trees by felling trees and cutting to smaller manageable pieces and loading into truck for disposal or places into wood chipper.

13. Cuts grass, weeds, bushes, etc. on all School District owned property including properties not used by the District on a regular basis.

14. Fertilizes and re-seeds lawns.

15. Plants shrubbery, bushes, trees and other vegetation.

16. Landscapes school grounds as needed.

17. Landscapes District owned fields.

18. Lines fields used by the District including fields owned by the City of Pittsburgh for special programs.

19. Top dress field with athletic field mix to insure even surface.

20. Cuts grass, shrubbery, trees and bushes to keep up appearance of field and District grounds

21. Performs gardening, general maintenance and other related duties as assigned.

22. Sprays insecticides and herbicides as necessary.

23. Cleans Cupples Stadium and other fields after normal permit usage.

24. Daily clean up of debris around and on field and surrounding walkways.

25. Secures field and buildings after each event and performs final lock up.

26. Checks and lubricates furnace and auxiliary equipment in District owned field houses.

27. Checks and maintains water heaters and other building components in District owned field houses.

28. Sweeps, dusts, mops, washes, disinfects and sanitizes the field house including rest rooms and showers.

29. Performs thorough cleaning of field house at the end of season including wall washing and informs Grounds Foreman that field house is ready to be closed for the
season.

30. Cleans and removes papers or other debris on grounds and courts of District owned buildings and empties trash containers into proper receptacles.

31. Inspects tennis and basketball courts and keeps them free from debris and grass.

32. Assists in digging deep holes for field posts, trees, etc.

33. Performs snow removal as necessary.

34. Assists in the removal of old furniture and the placement of new furniture.

35. Transports furniture, heavy equipment, boxes and other school supplies if necessary.

36. Stores and removes lumber, window glass and other repair materials used by building trades personnel.

37. Cleans attics and crawl spaces in District owned buildings.

38. Assists with the application of slag/gravel in District owned parking lots.

39. Cleans gutters and catch basins, fills in ruts and washouts as well as other erosion problems.
