Essential Functions and Objectives:

The Intervention Teacher provides direct instruction to small groups of students at the strategic level of intervention in order to supplement core instruction. Assists in screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring assessments. Assists in analyzing student data to determine student profile of needs, and for making instructional placement and instructional focus decisions. Collaborates and consults with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other specialists in a problem-solving approach to implement the most effective instructional plan for students.

Knowledge, Experience, & Other Qualifications:

Must possess a current Colorado Department of Education Teachers License. A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a public school setting. Experience and demonstrated success in increasing student achievement. Experience or training in evidence-based interventions.

Provides instruction to linguistically diverse students in English & Spanish. Must be able to achieve a passing score on the DPS Spanish Language Proficiency (SLP) test. DGS is an ECE-8 Innovation School and part of the first Innovation Zone in Denver Public Schools. The school serves the diverse southeast Denver neighborhood and has students representing 30 different countries. Our .8 FTE Reading Interventionist/English Language Acquisition (ELA-/S)/Spanish language teacher will support students in developing literacy skills in small groups, support emerging bilingual students in developing their command of academic and social English skills, and instruct 5th and 6th grade students in acquiring Spanish language skills. The model candidate will be bilingual, have knowledge of working with elementary and middle school students, have ELA-E and ELA-S qualifications according to DPS guidelines, and will be passionate about supporting all students inside and outside of the general education classrooms. This candidate would have an in depth understanding of literacy skill development and language development and how to provide language instruction to students at their levels. We are also looking for a candidate that desires to support classroom teachers in utilizing best-practice strategies for all students, including emerging bilinguals in the classroom and helping foster a community that is proud of our diversity.
