Job Description
Title:   Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in an educational discipline from an accredited college or university; doctoral degree preferred. Current and valid MA DESE administrator's license is required.

• Ability to build consensus and community around issues of diversity, equity and inclusion (e.g. intersections between curricular and co-curricular practices) and reconcile competing interests.
• Familiarity with K-12 curricula.
• Expertise in identifying, collecting, and analyzing data necessary to assess institutional climate and develop key strategies.  
• Clear and effective written, verbal and public speaking communication skills across settings and constituencies.
• Demonstrated excellence in supervision and administration of personnel and programs in a school setting.
• Thorough knowledge of techniques of staff development, learning and family systems as well as of family and community engagement frameworks.  
• Successful experience in strategic planning, goal development, and budgeting.  
• Ability to interact effectively with principals, administrators, and community leaders in support of family and community engagement at local schools.
• Ability to create and lead ongoing training and professional development to deepen the understanding and respect for diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I) and fingerprints.

Job Goal: The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion works closely with the various stakeholders and is responsible for prioritizing and operationalizing initiatives, especially those dealing with curriculum (in collaboration with the Office for Teaching and Learning), professional development, as well as faculty hiring, staff recruiting and retention (in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources). The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is responsible for guiding efforts and creating opportunities to define, assess, and promote diversity, equity and inclusion, educational and employment opportunities, and cultural fluency. In addition, s/he develops and oversees the District's collaboration with business partnerships. The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion ensures legal compliance with state and federal laws as they pertain to student discipline and well-being and interacts with parents when issues arise on behalf of the Superintendent of Schools. The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion completes Special Projects as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

Performance Responsibilities:

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion:
• Assists in the creation and implementation of a strategic plan to support district diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and programming by defining clear goals and objectives, advocating for the necessary resources to promote equitable practices of diversity and inclusion, and galvanizing all members of the WPS community behind a shared vision for the future.
• Develop and monitor a regular monthly report of data related to measuring the effectiveness of climate, culture, social emotional learning, multi-tiered system of supports, attendance, and discipline.
• Creates comprehensive and ongoing training and professional development opportunities across all WPS populations that deepen community awareness, understanding, and respect for diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Promotes the ongoing improvement and sustained success of institutional diversity, equity and inclusion goals by using data-driven metrics to identify methods of accountability and evaluate school climate.
• Measures the effectiveness of diversity initiatives and leads cross-district discussions which support students, faculty, and staff in advancing the diversity, equity and inclusion agenda.
• Provides leadership and assessment of professional development opportunities for administrators, faculty, and staff in key areas related to diversity and inclusion and works collaboratively the district associations to ensure that diversity and inclusion are reflected in the evaluation processes.
• Provides resources and expertise on access and equity, including knowledge of nondiscrimination laws, regulations, and policies and procedures for effectively responding to bias incidents.
• Oversees the METCO and works collaboratively with A Better Chance programs.
• Examines institutional practices and potential barriers to employee recruitment/hiring/retention that promote and align with the WPS mission and vision.
• Participates actively in the recruitment, development, and retention of a diverse faculty and staff, promoting avenues for increased access and inclusion through adequate professional development and training.

Community Relations and Communication:  
• Builds, develops, and maintains strong relationships with elected officials, staff, community leaders, faith leaders, businesses, parent leaders, and community organizations in support of students, schools and communities.
• Partner with school leaders to build long term vision for family engagement including not only leadership and advocacy but also parent education, organizing and other forms of engagement and support for their students and communities.
• Works in conjunction with the Superintendent to attend school/public events as a representative of the Wellesley Public Schools during school and non-school hours.
• Communicates with the Superintendent on the needs of the district as perceived by staff, parents, community members, and other interested individuals/groups.
• Oversees management of related financial accounts and expenditures and prepares reports and annual budget recommendations.
• Will engage, promote and participate in anti-bias training.
Other:
• Responsible for completion of other professional tasks as may be assigned by the Superintendent.

Work is primarily sedentary, performed in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands; to finger; to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, and close vision such as reading typewritten material. The work typically requires occasional in-district travel to attend meetings.
