Overview of Rise Academy Summer School

Rise Academy mission to dramatically improve educational opportunity for Springfield students is marked by our summer school programming. Rise's summer school programming is an initiative to extend targeted, small-group literacy and math support to middle and rising high school students throughout the summer. This extended learning time was shown to be an effective support for improvement of student performance through a randomized trial study completed in 2016.

Our Summer School program needs thorough assessment of our learners to be able to create a personalized plan for rigorous, academic support. The Assessment Coordinator will work with students determining their strengths and needs in reading and math using programs, tools and techniques outlined by Rise Administration.

Assessment Coordinator Responsibilities

With support and guidance from Rise Administration, the coordinator is expected to:

Work with small groups of students and individuals to administer diagnostic assessments

Document assessment results

Make decisions, alongside Administration and teachers, to guide the development of personalized student intervention plans based on assessment results

Interface with students and administer assessments for a minimum of 4.5 hours each day each day of summer school according the schedule developed by Administration.

Call parents of incoming students to schedule testing appointments.

Operations & Logistics

Attend each Summer School day

Prepare assessment materials for each day of the assessment week

Manage any and all other tasks necessary for operational excellence as outlined by the administration team

Assessment Coordinator Requirements

Experience with literacy intervention and math assessment preferred, but not required

Familiarity with using data to inform intervention and/or instruction

Willingness to learn or further knowledge of evidence-based literacy intervention assessment tools and techniques

Belief that all students can grow academically when provided with the opportunity to engage with high-quality teaching practices and materials

Confidence as a problem solver who works to overcome challenges

Demonstrated success in building relationships with students

Benefits

Selection as a summer school assessment coordinator recognizes an individual for his/her outstanding commitment to urban education. In addition, the indiidual selected will receive:

$4,000 stipend

Schedule

The Assessment Coordinator will work a minimum of 4.5 hours each day and is expected to provide support during transition times in accordance with systems outlined by the building administration and teacher.
