  • TITLE: Summer School Guidance Counselor
    This position does not constitute full-time employment with District 189 for the 2019-2020 school year. This is a seasonal position only.

    DESCRIPTION of POSITION:

    The counselor is directly responsible to the Building Principal. The Counselor shall assist students, teachers, and parents by providing educational experiences which may become personally productive. Illinois State Professional Educator License is Required.

    DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Counsel with individual students.

    2. Conduct group counseling sessions with students having similar problems.

    3. Work closely with the classroom teachers by visiting with them regularly.

    4. Conduct monthly classroom visitations to familiarize the students of special

    Problems, dates, tests, scholarships, loans, grants, guidance activities, study trips, field trips, etc.

    5. Plan and lead group orientation sessions on guidance services with students,

    teachers, and administrators.

    6. Organize and serve on school guidance committees.

    7. Serves as a resource person for the teaching staff.

    8. Conduct appropriate research such as student surveys, and follow-up studies.

    9. Maintain up-to-date guidance records on all student contracts.

    10. Organize and maintain systematic file for student records.

    11. Conduct parent conference and make home visitations when deemed necessary.

    12. Be familiar with local social agencies, and when necessary make student referrals.

    13. Refer students to those school community agencies whose specialized services are beyond the competency of the Counselor.

    14. Administer and interpret tests.

    15. Compile, organize, and forward test results to the central district testing office.

    16. Assist in public relations by speaking to service clubs, youth groups, PTA's, church groups, etc.

    17. Hold guidance staff meetings within assigned building area when necessary.

    18. Serve as a consultants in developing an occupational information booklet.

    19. Obtain speakers and resource persons from the community when requested by teachers, administrators, and students.

    20. Follow-up on all contacts.

    21. Promote leadership and responsibility of students by involving them in school activities.

    22. Submit monthly report to the director and Building Principal.

    23. Conduct year-end Survey of guidance Services for Program evaluation.
