Literacy Reading Specialist:
The reading specialist will provide direct services to students who require reading intervention and will support school-based implementation of the district literacy intervention curriculum as defined in the district and school development and performance plans. The candidate will support building administrators, content area teachers, and support personnel to ensure the delivery of quality literacy instruction to improve student achievement. The literacy specialist will also share knowledge and expertise with all constituents through resources, modeling, coaching, and professional development. The responsibilities required of this position include the following:
The candidate must possess a strong knowledge base in literacy intervention and exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate must also work collaboratively with colleagues to improve student reading and writing achievement.
Educational Background and Work Experience
Certification: Remedial Reading certification (102). Willingness to seek additional certification if needed for CT certification requirements

- Teach reading intervention classes to support students identified for Tier II/III intervention, model instruction, and build capacity for literacy instruction in the system
- Administer screening and diagnostic assessments
- Support content area teachers with intervention, progress monitoring, and differentiated instruction strategies
- Analyze and interpret district assessment data to identify student needs, monitor student progress, and assist teachers with differentiated instruction
- Participate in curriculum development and implementation
The candidate must possess a strong knowledge base in literacy intervention and exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate must also work collaboratively with colleagues to improve student reading and writing achievement.
Educational Background and Work Experience
- Five years teaching experience, middle school teaching experience preferred
- Ability to analyze student assessment data
- Ability to establish trust, maintain confidentiality, and respect the professional expertise of teachers
- Ability to review and conduct instructional practice research
