Under the supervision of the Principal the Graduation Coach will provide comprehensive mentoring- outreach- and supportive services to students to include the following: implementing activities to improve the number of participating students who obtain a high school diploma- and complete applications for- and enroll in a program of postsecondary education or secure training while in high school that will lead career readiness; encouraging student enrollment in rigorous and challenging curricula and coursework- in order to reduce the need for remedial coursework at the postsecondary level; providing information regarding financial aid for postsecondary education to participating students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Uses all relevant data to identify student who are at-risk of dropping out of high school.
• Assesses each student's needs, set academic goals and formulate a comprehensive plan for assistance in
coordination with the student, parent(s)/guardian(s), teachers, guidance counselors, and community partner.
• Maintains a file for each cohort student to include: Student assessments; Individual Graduation Plan (end of 8th
grade); Documentation of meetings with parents; Documentation of individual student conferences; Referrals for
needed educational and/or social services.
• Assists students in developing a portfolio for documenting career and college planning.
• Monitors students' grades and attendance weekly through student information system.
• Implements appropriate preventative measures and interventions for students and families to address student
success.
• Counsels each student through a combination of individual and small group meetings.
• Communicates regularly with parent(s)/guardian(s), to discuss academic progress, obstacles and needed efforts by
students and parents; should include face-to-face contact, phone, email, semester newsletter, and other as needed
communication opportunities.
• Coordinates tutoring support.
• Conducts and analyzes ongoing formative and summative evaluation data of program effectiveness.
• Coordinates a transition program for 9th graders to successfully adapt to the rigor of high school.
• Uses various electronic tools to support learning and to make work more efficient.
• Conducts quarterly vertical team meetings among elementary, middle, and high school faculty and staff to develop
action steps to improve individual student and subgroup transition success rate.
• Tracks the progress of individual and subpopulations of students as they progress toward graduation.
• Provides training to parents of students identified as being at risk of not graduating.
• Provides training to middle school and high school teachers on support measures that work with youth identified as
at-risk of not graduating and the youth's parents/guardians.
• Coordinates graduation, college choice and financial aid plans for each student.
• Participates in parent-teacher conferences.
• Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
• Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandated
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Successful experiences working with secondary at-risk students.
• Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for reducing behaviors that put students at risk of not graduating from
high school.
• An understanding of the multiplicity of social services available in the community to support students at risk of not
graduating.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of successful techniques for classroom organization and experience planning for effective instruction.
• Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Suite, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Requirements: EDUCATION: Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree required
WORK EXPERIENCE: Successful experiences working with secondary at-risk students required
- An understanding of the multiplicity of social services available in the community to support students at risk of not graduating required
- Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for reducing behaviors that put students at risk of not graduating from high school required
- Strong organizational skills required
- Experience in a 6-12 school environment preferred
CERTIFICATION/ LICENSES:
- Para- Assessment test or Min 60 semester/90 quarter/ 1000 clock hours of college coursework or Associates degree
