Supervises: Family Advocates

Position Purpose: To coordinate the social service activities and information about families and children in the head start program. Function within the framework of the project guidelines for head start.

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited college, with bachelor's degree in social work, human development, early childhood education or a related field.
  • One year experience providing services for low income families, preferred in a Head Start and/or school program.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations governing Head Start programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with parents, staff and children.
  • Knowledge of community resources for families and children.
  • Ability to operate standard computer equipment and data tracking/analysis software

Physical/Emotional Requirements: (The incumbent may be required to use the below requirements during any part of the working day.) Moving throughout the work location; lifting 10-20 lbs. occasionally; hand/finger dexterity in operating computers and other office equipment; eye/hand coordination; above average time pressure, intensity and analytical thinking due to multiple, unrelated demands on time and attention; verbal & written communication.

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Communicate and coordinate activities with community organizations to improve services to parents and children. Refer families to community resources.
  2. Attend community partnership meetings on a monthly basis.
  3. Prepare information needed for eligibility, recruitment, selection, enrollment and attendance (ERSEA) in accordance with head start requirements.
  4. Work with Community Action Head Start to take applications and review transfer requests.
  5. Review family partnership agreements and Parent/Family Community Engagement Outcomes
  6. Insure that each classroom is provided with social services as needed or requested.
  7. Assist parents in obtaining emergency services in the area of clothing, food, etc.
  8. Schedule and conduct conferences with staff to discuss family needs and problems; plan programs of assistance.
  9. Attend all pre-service and in-service training sessions
  10. Offer professional expertise in the area of social services to all personnel
  11. Provide program information to public and private agencies
  12. Coordinate activities with other components of the program and other sources of assistance
  13. Serve as liaison between staff and parents for communication of needs, policies and problems
  14. Prepare and conduct regular staff meeting and in-service training
  15. Prepare periodic reports for administration, policy groups and federal agencies
  16. Assist in the recruitment, identification and enrollment of children for the program
  17. Refer children and/or families to local service agencies
  18. Assist in the coordination of early childhood registration for Head Start Early Childhood Joint Application Process
  19. Make home visits and conduct casework
  20. Provide transportation (bus or taxi service as financially feasible) for children not living in the center attendance area; responds to parental inquiries regarding transportation
  21. Responsible for address and classroom assignment changes, class changes and drops
  22. Liaison between the Head Start Office and the Bus Company
  23. Perform any other duties as assigned
  24. Monitor daily and monthly attendance


Terms of Employment: 10.5 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education
