    SUMMARY : The Metropolitan Arts Academy is a PK- 6 arts magnet school designed to promote student learning in all content areas by integrating an arts perspective and methodology in teaching and learning. The academy also fosters arts exploration for all students and advanced arts study for those who exhibit the aptitude and passion for more in-depth artistic pursuits. The academy will build out to a PK-8 school in the next three years. Primary students will receive the fundamentals of music with an emphasis on classical training, in order to prepare them to self-select into the more comprehensive music classes at the intermediate and middle school levels. The academy will be applying for innovation status with Westminster Public Schools and the Colorado Department of Education.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
    *Possess a valid Colorado Teacher License with appropriate endorsement in the area you are teaching or obtain one prior to start
    *Candidates with endorsements in CLDE, Bilingual Ed, Foreign Language, and/or sheltered content or other English Language instructional training desired
    *Be up to date on current learning theory and state of art pedagogy in teaching.
    *Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with students, staff members, parents and administrators.
    *Has knowledge and experience of and/or willingness to gain knowledge of Competency-based Education approaches.
    *Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English
    *Bilingual desired
    *Experience and/or skills working with culturally diverse populations desired.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
    *All M.A.A. teachers will participate in training that accomplishes two goals: to establish a solid base of understanding in all areas of arts integration and to develop expertise in the area of project-based learning. Teachers will be expected to make continued investments in M.A.A. teacher professional development.
    *To build capacity in the these two areas, teachers will participate in additional professional development in their selected area of expertise.
    *A mandatory week of training will be developed for the summer preceding the school's opening. The purpose of the training will be to familiarize all teachers with the M.A.A. expectations and vision of the school.
    *Teachers must be willing to extend their knowledge of the arts integration and project-based learning through professional development, summer training and coursework, teacher workshops, action research projects, teacher externships and partner visits.
    *Teachers will be engaged in reflective, collaborative teaching. Common level planning time will be used to plan interdisciplinary units of inquiry, examine student work and student data, plan interventions and develop integrated humanities lessons. All teachers will commit to sharing best practices. Teachers are a learning community and will collaborate regularly with team members and students to ensure academic and personal achievement for the students.
    *Student data, used to drive instruction, will be an important part of PLC meetings. M.A.A. school staff will participate in on-going data analysis as a regular part of their collaboration.
    *Teachers are expected to participate in lesson study groups by levels and by content areas. During these meetings, teachers will model, try and evaluate the success of lessons.
    *Fulfill contractual and professional responsibilities based on M.A.A. Innovation Plan, which includes required curriculum requirements.
    *Support and attend multiple high-quality performances and productions through-out the year.
    *Work with the arts department to coordinate, plan and implement two major theatre productions annually.
    *Plan for student differences and adjust instruction to meet student needs.
    *Implement continuous system of evaluations and provide students with specific feedback.
    *Serve as facilitator and coordinator of learning.
    *Establish an effective system for classroom discipline per Board Policy and building regulations.
    *Organize students for effective instruction to maximize the learning time for all students.
    *Submit required student record reports.
