BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Commonwealth of Virginia certification for school librarian.

STATE REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires eligibility for an endorsement in Library Media PreK-12.

BASIC FUNCTION/NATURE OF WORK:

To serve as a curriculum support service to the teachers, students, and all staff members by providing access to library materials and information resources. This position requires collaborative teaching.

DIMENSIONS:

Budget Responsibilities: Prepares, presents, and oversees a prioritized library budget.
Employees Supervised: Directs and supervises the work of library staff.
Number of Schools/Departments: None.
Number of Students: All students enrolled in the school.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES/ILLUSTRATIVE EX OF WORK:

• Work collaboratively with all stakeholders in providing a World-Class Education.
• Review, evaluate, and select resources in collaboration with other teachers.
• Process, organize, and classify resources to ensure access to materials.
• Maintain an automated library management and information access program.
• Maintain a current, functional library collection through data analysis, inventory, weeding, updating, and replacement of resources.
• Provide information about copyright law and fair-use practices.
• Share responsibility for student learning and the achievement of schoolwide instructional goals.
• Apply knowledge of how children learn to create learning-compatible environments.
• Model and promote use of the Prince William County Public School Information Management Process: accessing, analyzing, evaluating, and using information to create knowledge.
• Facilitate learning through resource-based instruction by providing access to and promoting the use of resources in all formats.
• Analyze, promote, and coordinate access to resources outside of the school library.
• Analyze and correlate the content of resources to the curriculum.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate instruction in collaboration with teachers.
• Participate in curriculum development and planning at the building and Division level.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
