ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

The mission of Chatfield is to foster intellectual curiosity and encourage academic success in order to prepare all students to become viable and productive members of a global community. We work to create, with our students, an atmosphere of academic excellence and respect by providing educational and extra-curricular opportunities, encouraging life-long learning and responsibility, while promoting diversity and school pride. We provide students with a comprehensive curriculum consisting of a strong academic core and a variety of elective courses, complemented by co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Our students continually outperform the district and state when it comes to standardized test (SAT, ACT, PSAT). Chatfield is also known for having many opportunities for students to take college level classes through Concurrent Enrollment (most offerings in the district) and Advanced Placement classes. Our success does not end in the classroom, as our athletic teams routinely participate in state competition. Our band each year places in the top-10 at state, we have numerous kids who are all-state in choir, our POMS are nationally ranked and we send students to National competition in FBLA, DECA and Speech and Debate. Job Title: Social Emotional Learning Specialist

DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the social emotional wellness of the school community and the transition support of students from middle school to high school. Utilize Social Emotional Learning (SEL) standards across the academic and career domains with student intervention strategies. Support students throughout the MTSS process. This support includes but is not limited to one-on-one support, group work, classroom and teacher support, and collaborative problem solving with both prevention and intervention models.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and partner with school staff and school community with team building, conflict resolution, decision making, time management, safe school planning, and facilitation of psycho-educational counseling groups.

Collaborate with school leadership to assess, develop and implement school wide initiatives to address social emotions wellness.

Work with students individually or in integrated settings as in the classroom.

Use research-based and technically sound practices to drive data-based decision-making and collaborate with school personnel and parents to develop and modify student intervention strategies.

Serve as liaison among district and school as well as families and community. Collaborate with various teams to assure positive outcomes for all students.

Respect diversity in the home, school, local and global communities.

Other duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATION: Current School Counselor endorsement on a valid Colorado License or hold current CDE Special Services Provider license with School Psychologist or School Social Worker endorsement

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Ability to communicate and develop effective relationships and function effectively as a team member. Willingness to be flexible and respond to the changing needs of students, staff, families, schools and the District. Ability to integrate educational theory, research and expertise into appropriate practices for local contexts, in a style that facilitates positive change and continuous improvement. Must have effective group facilitation skills. Ability to use data to make educationally sound decisions. Best practices in Social Emotional Learning. Ability to read and interpret documents, write reports and correspondence and to use and integrate technology appropriately in daily work which includes but is not limited to efficient voice mail systems, application of basic computer skills to effectively use e-mail, internet, word processing.

DIVERSITY OF DUTIES: Duties require knowledge of District and school policies/procedures and applicable State/Local/Federal laws, facility security, child/adolescent behavior, intervention and mediation skills, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Position does not require additional supervision responsibilities outside the regular work day/work week, however, student discipline events and conferences with staff may extend beyond the work day in order to ensure timely conclusion of such matters.

POTENTIAL DAILY WORK INCLUDES: Running groups (study skills, loss, anxiety, social skills, executive functioning, etc), School Wide Mental Health support program, Member of the MTSS team, Supporting students as a Tier 2 Intervention, Crisis Response, Liaison to teachers/students/community connecting to resources, Facilitate Restorative Practices Circles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Utilize Social Emotional Learning (SEL) standards across the academic and career domains with students intervention strategies. Support students across the continuum with RTI and MTSS. This support includes but is not limited to one-on-one support, group work, classroom and teacher support, and collaborative problem solving with both prevention and intervention models.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Lead and partner with school staff and school community with team building, conflict resolution, decision making, time management, safe school planning, and facilitation of psycho-educational counseling groups.

Collaborate with school leadership to assess, develop and implement school wide initiatives to address social emotional wellness.

Work with students individually or in integrated settings such as the regular classroom, team meetings, and in cooperation with classroom teachers.

Utilize and refer to a variety of student support structures including but not limited to: ALP, 504, ICAP and the special education referral process.

Use research-based and technically sound practices to drive decision-making; and collaborate with school personnel and parents to develop and modify student intervention strategies.

Serve as liaison among district building(s), families and community and collaborate with various teams to assure positive outcomes for all learners.

Provide professional learning or content for adult learners.

Respect for diversity in the home, school, local and global communities.
