    $6,044.00 - $7,073.00 per month (SR-28)
    A shortage Differential ranging from $87.00 to $129.00 per month will be added to the base salary, contingent upon funding.

    CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST VIII
    $6,535.00 - $7,648.00 per month (SR-30)
    A shortage Differential ranging from $88.00 to $129.00 per month will be added to the base salary, contingent upon funding.
  • NOTE: Department of Education employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations. All new external applicants will be placed on the initial step of the salary range. However, placement above the initial step of the salary range will be based on special characteristics and critical needs of the position, an applicant's exceptional qualifications, the availability of funds, and other relevant factors. Such appointments require prior approval.

  • Employment Opportunities in Temporary Positions
    Some vacant positions may be temporary. Temporary positions may be extended year to year, dependent upon funding and departmental needs. Making yourself available for temporary positions increases your employment possibilities and may lead to permanent opportunities. A person hired for a temporary position may also become a temporary employee upon satisfactory completion of the initial probation period of at least six months. Once a temporary employee, you would be eligible to apply for promotion and transfer opportunities to permanent as well as other temporary positions. You may also enjoy other rights and benefits as afforded to an employee in a permanent position, with the exception of return rights and placement rights associated with a reduction-in-force.
  • Level VII
    Plans, organizes, directs, evaluates and participates in the activities of a clinical psychology program; and performs other duties as required.

    Level VIII
    Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates a program of clinical psychology consisting of a group of distinct, interrelated subprograms; and performs other duties as required.
  • Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Note: Calculation of experience is based on full-time, 40-hour workweeks. Part-time experience is pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.

    To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
  • Education Requirement:
    Applicants must possess the requirements specified in either A, B, C, D or E below:
    A. Successful completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree from an accredited college in clinical psychology which included an internship in clinical psychology. In lieu of the internship requirement, applicants may substitute one year of professional work experience in the field of clinical psychology.
    B. Successful completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree from an accredited college in a specialty related to clinical psychology. The doctoral program must have included an internship in clinical psychology or must have been supplemented by a post-doctoral clinical internship. In lieu of the clinical internship requirement, applicants may substitute one year of post-doctoral clinical psychology experience under competent profession supervision.
    C. Holds a doctoral degree from a training program approved by the American Psychological Association (APA) or holds a doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education and also meets the experiential requirements for inclusion in the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, as described in Chapter 465, HRS.
    D. Holds a diplomate certificate in good standing granted by the American Board of Examiners in Professional Psychology, as described in Chapter 465, HRS.
    E. A valid license to practice psychology in the State of Hawaii, as described in Chapter 465, HRS.

    Experience Requirment:
    Two (2) years for Level VII; and, for Level VIII, three (3) years of professional clinical psychology experience which involved psycho diagnostic and psychotherapeutic services to individuals with severe problems of personality, social, emotional adjustment or mental retardation.

    For Level VII, at least one (1) year of the experience must have been comparable to Level VI in the State service. For level VII, one year of research or college level teaching experience in the field of clinical psychology may be used toward meeting the overall experience requirement.

    For Level VIII, at least one (1) year of the experience must have been comparable to Level VII in the State service or two (2) years of experience at a level comparable to Level VI in the State service. For level VIII, two (2) years of research or college level teaching experience in the field of clinical psychology may be used toward meeting the overall experience requirement.

    Hawaii Psychologist License Requirement:
    Within two years from the date of appointment as a Clinical Psychologist V or higher, applicant(s) hired must meet the requirements for licensing and obtain a license issued by the Hawaii State Board of Psychology, as required by Chapter 465, HRS.
