Summary: The Leadership Development (LD) Specialist implements vision for high quality leadership across CMS. This position is tasked with supporting and developing current and aspiring district leaders, principals, and assistant principals as well as non-instructional staff. This position focuses on coordinating and collaborating onboarding, succession planning, professional learning, alignment, and career trajectories.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)

  • Develops learning and leadership development strategies aligned with district and division vision.
  • Develops and manages relationships across the district and with a wide variety of partners.
  • Executes on design, implementation, refinement and evaluation of all aspects of the Leadership Development.
  • Consistently assesses and measures leader development programs to ensure they are relevant and aligned to CMS strategy and performance values.
  • Supports Wallace Foundation grant for the Principal Pipeline.
  • Supports relationships with university partners to deliver professional development for central office, principal supervisors, principals, assistant principals and aspiring leaders.
  • Supports succession planning for school and district leaders.


  • Serves on district level committees, including district-wide conferences/events.
  • Models data-driven decision making, maintains data related to goals and initiatives, evaluates current and future programs, and prepares/submits reports.
  • Plans and leads differentiated professional learning experiences.
  • Fosters and maintains a positive and productive working relationship with school leaders, other school-based and district staff and partners.
  • Develop measures, benchmarks, or scorecards to monitor the effectiveness of leadership development solutions.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience:

    Minimum


  • Master's degree in business, organizational development, education or other related field
  • Three years of successful school leadership experience


Desired

  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in education or business


Licensing / Certification Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid NC Curriculum/Instruction Specialist Certification or Education Specialist Certification preferred.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work requires to use skills requiring repetitive motor coordination (e.g. keyboarding) most of a normal work day. The work at times requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights less than 30 pounds. The work rarely has risks for potential job-related injury. The work requires activities frequently involving driving automotive equipment.
