At Swanson we believe in empowering students with the skills and character to succeed, and we align our daily work to this mission. In addition, we operate as a Professional Learning Community prioritizing a focus on learning, collaboration and results.

At Swanson we always adapt to the needs of our students. Our 4th/5th team employs a personalized learning model where students engage in problem based learning, work with a 1:1 mentor, and set individualized goals for learning. In K-3rd we prioritize strong literacy and foundational skills while also creating meaningful problem based learning opportunities for students. We have been a K-5, 1:1 iPad school for many years and teachers use this technology as a tool to enhance student learning. Staff members incorporate elements of STEM into the classroom and with the addition of our Creative Learning Systems Smart Lab (expected installation spring 2019) opportunities for STEM enrichment will flourish. The 7 Mindsets are another major part of our work, which helps our students build strong character traits.

In addition to terrific kids, we have a truly terrific staff at Swanson. Our teachers are both collegial and congenial. Teams collaborate in weekly planning meetings with our instructional coach, are part of school-wide committees, and always put kids first in the decision making process. At Swanson we have a motto Once a Colt, Always a Colt and we mean it. We love and value our people and work hard to create a welcoming environment for our students, staff and community.
