Distinguishing Features of the Senior Payroll Audit Clerk Role

Successful candidate will perform centralized payroll functions for 1,700 employees and additional substitutes on a bi-weekly schedule. Position reports to the District Director of Business & Finance. This position requires a high degree of commitment to putting the customer first, working with diverse school communities and humility.

Typical Work Activities and Senior Payroll Audit Clerk Expectations
  • Verification and data entry of payroll deductions such as health insurance and flex spending;
  • Review of employment records to verify income as requested by various agencies and businesses;
  • Manage, process and respond to inquiries regarding direct deposit, deduction notices, retirement applications and other payroll related documents.

  • Enthusiastic about customer service;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to work with personnel at various levels in the organization, such as administrators as well as students, staff and faculty;
  • Ability to work on a team and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field;
  • 3 yrs. experience in financial accounts including payroll auditing OR high school diploma or equivalency diploma and 5 yrs. experience OR combination of training and experience from above.
  • Must have a minimum of 1-year experience performing payroll functions.

Salary Range
  • $34,996 - 37,852

** Position will be filled based on Civil Service requirements. A provisional appointment will be made with examination to be held in March 2019. Candidates must register for the test by January 14, 2019. Candidates must meet civil service Requirements for appointment following establishment of eligible list. Schenectady County Residents will have preference. **
