The School District of Clayton is seeking a full-time student-centered Reading Specialist to join our Captain Elementary School staff for the 2019-2020 school year.
A Reading Specialist works with individual students and small groups of students to provide reading support. Also, they provide support to classroom teachers.
The successful candidate will:
have in-depth knowledge of reading processes, acquisition, assessment, and instruction of reading and writing
work with teachers to support kids in classroom, including the reading and writing workshop
use research-based strategies to work with other teachers, provide in-service, and professional development in reading and writing strategies
collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to plan and develop instruction according to curriculum guidelines which meet individual student's learning needs and objectives
develop and present specific lesson plans, using a variety of teaching strategies
evaluate individual student learning needs and communicate with parents or guardians
work in conjunction with the building principal to understand behavior expectations and achieve desired level of classroom support in the teaching of reading and writing in a variety of settings
keep records of academic performance. Report on aspects of student development for school records and parents; conduct parent-teacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and asneeded basis
consult with other professionals to use diagnostic evaluation data of students; develops instruction (intervention and extension); differentiating instruction according to individual needs
participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by the building principal

Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Master's Degree in Reading required.
Certification: Missouri teacher certification and Special Reading certification required for level assigned.
