Qualifications: *Current Kansas Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement appropriate to the assignment on file in the Devin Center
*Meets Highly Qualified requirements set by Kansas
*Health certificate on file in Devin Center
*3-5 years teaching experience preferred, but not required
Reports To: Building Principals, Executive Director and Asst. Director of Special Education
Supervises: Students and Paraprofessionals
BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE
The ACSS Teacher challenges each student to reach his/her highest educational potential through a relevant curriculum in a safe and effective learning environment by collaborating with other members of the staff and administration to appropriately monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions. Must have knowledge of research-based interventions for students with significant/severe developmental disabilities including: structured teaching, applied behavior analysis, modeling and naturalistic teaching strategies.

The employee performing the duties of this position is frequently required to walk, sit, talk, hear, bend, stoop, and reach. The employee may be occasionally required to manually lift, move, or carry up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to interact with staff and meet the demands of several different people. The employee is responsible for the work output of others. The employee occasionally works extended hours. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

- Participate in staff, department, committee and team meetings
- Assist in early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
- Obtain instructional resources and materials through processes outlined by the Principal and/or the Executive Director of Special Education.
- Keep informed regarding new technologies that facilitate and support learning.
- Communicate clearly and accurately with administrators, staff, parents, students and support agencies.
- Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curricular modification/classroom strategies.
- Plan and implement transition services for students.
- Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state, and federal laws.
- Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and re-evaluation process.
- Attend/assist with school events; organize/supervise field trips.

- Assists the students in making realistic assessment of their abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities
- Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or disciplinary problems of each student
- Provide direction and training in relation to paraprofessional staff assigned to the classroom.
- Works cooperatively with classroom teachers who have students who are served in the ACSS program in regular classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the staff, and assisting the student with regular class assignments and test-taking
- Collaborate or determination of functional behavior analysis and implantation of positive behavior supports and behavior intervention plan.
- Collaborates and integrates activities of prescribed programs including those written by related service personal such as OT, PT, SW and Speech Language.
- Perform other duties assigned by the principal or other building or district administrators.
Salary Range: Determined by placement on teacher salary schedule.
Additional days beyond the contract year will be compensated according to the negotiated agreement in effect
Evaluation Frequency: Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with state regulations and the terms established in the negotiated agreement
