  • POSITION INFORMATION:

    Supervisor: Ms. Kimberly Judge, Director of Special Education
    Employment Period: 10 months
    Employment Status: Full-time
    Salary: Commensurate with experience
    Start Date: January 2019

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Provides evaluations and physical therapy to eligible students.
    • Provides consultation to professional staff and parents regarding strategies or techniques to meet needs of students receiving physical therapy.
    • Communicates with district staff, physical therapy paraprofessionals, students, parents, and physicians.
    • Attends IEP meetings.
    • Maintains therapy record folders with evaluation, attendance record, progress reports, communications log, IEP, and physician's approval, if needed.
    • Completes documentation required for the billing of Medicaid.
    • Recommends, maintains, and provides care of therapy equipment and materials.
    • Supervises physical therapy assistants.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Special Education.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of physical therapy.
    • Professional license issued by the State of Virginia.
    • Experience with school-age population, preferred.
    • Thorough knowledge of pediatric physical therapy diagnostic and treatment procedures.
    • Thorough knowledge of special education requirements related to physical therapy services.
    • Maintains continuing education requirements as outlined by the American Physical Therapy Association.
    • Requires standing, sitting, bending, and lifting/carrying work-related items weighing >25 pounds.
    • Requires strength, dexterity, fine and gross motor skills necessary to implement exercise activities for restoration of physical function or to minimize residual disability, with or without assistance.
    • Good organizational, human relations, and communication skills.
    • Travel to various locations required; valid driver's license is required.
