Harlem Children's Zone, Inc (HCZ) is a multi-site, multi-program community organization that provides a unique and comprehensive interlocking network of education, social and health services, and recreation to more than 21,000 children and adults in Central Harlem. Its goal is to create a "tipping point" in the neighborhood so that children are surrounded by an enriching environment of college-oriented peers and supportive adults. HCZ is nationally and internationally recognized for its early and progressive intervention programs, and has been called "one of the most ambitious social-policy experiments of our time" by The New York Times.

We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to provide personnel support to HCZ's programs and administrative departments, which include: support for benefits administration, personnel policies, compensation, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communications skills, and possess the ability to engage others with diplomacy to build and maintain strong professional working relationships.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide support for benefits administration, personnel policies, compensation, and regulatory compliance
  • Plan, prioritize, organize, and manage HR administrative workflow and projects
  • Coordinate new hire process, ensuring accuracy and integrity of data
  • Develop and maintain employee files and other pertinent employee information
  • Contribute to the development of new HR systems, processes, and operations to ensure greater efficiencies
  • Effectively coordinate with Payroll on matters related
  • Work closely with HR staff to plan and conduct new employee orientation
  • Provide top-notch HR service delivery to managers and staff
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on various special projects
  • Remain knowledgeable about HR trends and industry best practices
  • Performs other duties assigned

Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
  • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
  • Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years' experience in human resource administration with a mid- to large-size organization
  • Knowledge of government regulations, including FLSA, COBRA, ERISA, and other employment laws and regulations
  • Familiarity with UltiPro, ADP, and/or Kronos HR systems preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to think strategically and proactively troubleshoot for and solve problems
  • Superior customer service skills, always demonstrating courtesy, tact, and integrity
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Must be a team player with exceptional organizational and communications skills
  • Strong work ethic with impeccable attention to detail
