Position Overview
Whittle School & Studios is seeking an enthusiastic, self-starter multi-tasker for the position of Middle School STEM Teacher.
The STEM Teacher builds on the cross-cutting concepts that help students better understand core ideas in sciences, technologies, engineering, and mathematics.  The STEM Teacher will co-create and lead projects as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team of Middle School teachers and will have responsibility for implementing Whittle's integrated STEM curriculum in the division.  
The teacher will engage students in Project Based Learning through the following characteristics:  
  • Student voice and choice in designing projects   
  • A classroom environment that expects error and change   
  • Student research in order to access, manage and analyze information   
  • Student participation in defining criteria and rubrics to assess projects   
  • Reflection used to modify or change project direction and outcome to enhance student growth   
  • Formative and summative assessments used to maximize teacher decision making and student growth opportunities   
  • Listening and speaking skills are naturally incorporated in student presentation of projects enhancing questioning skills, critical thinking, collaboration and communication  
  • Exploration of real-world problems and challenges  
  • Immerse students in local and global heritage, cultures, landscapes, opportunities and experiences, using these as a foundation for interdisciplinary projects.  
  • Engage students in the application of design thinking principles  
The teacher will  also:  
  • understand deeply that the years of early adolescence are pivotal and abound with individual potential and opportunity  
  • be passionate about developing a relationship and sense of trust with each student  
  • seek to engage with students and the greater Whittle community in a variety of ways  inside and  outside the classroom  
  • appreciate the value of, and thrive as, a Middle School advisor for students  
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities of all Campus faculty members are organized loosely by the four program areas of the Whittle Ideal Candidate: (1) Core Curriculum, (2) Global Perspectives, (3) Personalized Pathways, and (4) Beyond the Core as well as those responsibilities expected as a member of a collaborative, professional learning community.

Qualifications and Attributes

The following are highly desirable qualifications for the listed position:  
  • Bachelor's degree BA/BS in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics or post graduate work in subject-matter required
  • Master's level degree or above in subject-area preferred
  • Linguistic proficiency in Mandarin Chinese a plus
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in an independent school environment
  • Participates in professional learning communities, grade-level teams, and other collaborative communities to design and plan instructions, to improve practice, and to achieve student outcomes
  • Drive and energy to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
