POSITION SUMMARY:

The Data Analyst will provide critical support to the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) "Comprehensive School Safety in Atlanta Public Schools" grant partnership - a five-year initiative designed to: improve school policing practices; identify school systems of support; and leverage data analytics to support predictive policing and student behavior.
In coordination with the APS Data and Information Group, the Data Analyst will work closely with grant partners, the project team, and other stakeholders to gain insight on the types of key metrics needed to effectively evaluate the initiative. Additionally, the Data Analyst will be responsible for developing a comprehensive database utilizing data from internal and external sources. The Data Analyst will design reports, develop performance dashboards, present data, and facilitate analytical discussions that will inform data-driven decisions to guide the strategic direction of the program and provide school leaders with critical, timely information on student discipline, school climate and culture, and potential threats impacting school safety.
Software used for this work will include the SQL Server Management Studio, Tableau, and Stata.
This position is currently contingent on grant funding and is scheduledto change to a permanent positon once grant funding ceases.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Work with district leadership, school leadership, and the Office of Safety and Security and school leadership to provide actionable data on student behavior for improving student outcomes.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain the research database for the initiative.
  • Work with external stakeholders to acquire relevant data and key metrics for the initiative.
  • Develop data collection and sharing practices to ensure all parties adhere to APS and grant partner policies.
  • Participate in a variety of planning and development activities to assist in creating short-term and long-term plans for Safety & Security support throughout the district. (e.g., planning meetings, committees, user interviews, quality assurance testing, etc.) .
  • Prepare materials in both printed and electronic formats for the purpose of database documentation, records management and retention, and evaluating program outcomes. (e.g., state and local compliance reports, technical specifications, user manuals, training guides, memos, procedures, project documentation, data/process flow charts, etc.).
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources to provide technical assistance, advice, and support. (e.g., staff, administrators, school-based personnel, vendors, and service providers, etc.) .
  • Respond to research requests for data extracts/reports, following established data-sharing policies.
  • Create and summarize data analyses for grant partners and other stakeholders.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements: EDUCATION:
Bachelor?s degree in related field required.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
None required.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
At least two years of full-time experience working in data management or analysis with a strong background in either relational database design or data analytics.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
The ideal candidate will have experience both building SQL databases and with advanced data analytics and reporting. Candidates with at least one of those two skills and a demonstrated ability to learn new skills will also be considered.
The following will also be important:
  • Ability to use software to merge, manipulate and analyze large data sets with complex structures.
  • Data visualization skills, ideally including interactive reports.
  • Interest in issues of school safety and public education.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to keep accurate, well-organized records.
  • Ability to manage time with flexibility and limited supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact and partner with various levels of management, staff, faculty, and external constituents.


Compensation: Salary Grade: 130
Salary Range: $62, 630 to $90, 031
Work Days: 254 Days (Annual Duty)

FLSA Status: Exempt
