RoleThe Assistant Principal (AP) reports to UP Academy's Principal and serves on UP Academy's Leadership Team. The AP is responsible for the leadership and implementation of the school's academic program, especially the management and development of new teachers across content areas. The AP plans professional development, leads efforts to create a consistent, caring, and disciplined school culture, and takes enthusiastic responsibility for the success of the entire school's academic program in partnership with the Principal and other instructional leaders.Specific ResponsibilitiesTeacher Development

? Oversee the growth and development of a cohort of teachers across grade levels and content areas, with a particular focus on supporting strong instructional and management habits of early-career teachers

? Develop data-driven coaching plans that include formal and informal feedback on observations, lesson plan review, curriculum design, and more

? Build teachers' ability to independently develop strong standards-aligned curricular materials and instructional strategies to support the learning of all students.

? Regularly design schoolwide and targeted professional development based on trends in student learning and staff need

Team Management and Leadership

? Partner with Principal and other school staff to build a culture of joy and high expectations for students and staff

? Conduct a rigorous performance evaluation process to assess teacher effectiveness based on coaching and student learning data

? Participate in strategies to invest, engage, and retain UP Academy's highest-performing teachers

? Develop, design, implement, and participate in an annual four-week staff orientation and training

? Develop and support a culture of reflective practice and positive relationships among staff

? Engage students' families as valued partners in their child's education and celebrate the cultures, languages, and heritages of the communities UP Academy serves

? Contribute to hiring process as needed

Curriculum and Assessment Design

? Coach teachers on instructional planning, including daily and unit plans to ensure they align to the standards and long-term student achievement goals.

? Facilitate weekly meetings to analyze student work, review information regarding classroom assessments, and plan for instruction

? Ensure student mastery of state, city, and school academic and behavioral standards

? Support teachers to design and implement formative assessments that measure progress towards academic standards

Qualifications? A strong belief in UP Education Network's core values: Students, Community, Humility, Resilience, and Humor? Bachelor's degree is required, Master's degree is preferred? At least three years of teaching experience required? At least three years of school-level instructional leadership experience required; teacher coaching and supervision required? Demonstrated success in leading in a diverse environment? A valid Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal, 5-12 Administrator license? Current authorization to work in the United States - A candidate must have such authorization by their first day of employment.Compensation and Benefits

UP Academy follows the salary scales and salary placement policies of each UP Academy's host school district or state turnaround plan; please see the relevant union's collective bargaining agreement for additional details.
