Social and Emotional Learning Coach, UP Academy Kennedy
About UP Education Network
UP Education Network manages and operates six schools in Boston, Lawrence, and Springfield, MA. We serve over 3,000 elementary and middle school students. UP is invited by local school districts to restart chronically underperforming district schools as UP Academies. Each UP Academy shares the same mission: to ensure that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and strength of character necessary to succeed on the path to college and to achieve their full potential.
Role
The Social and Emotional Learning Coach will primarily lead and support implementation of Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Think:Kids evidence-based approach for helping children develop the skills they need to manage their behavior, at UP Academy Kennedy in Springfield, MA. He or she will facilitate ongoing CPS professional development, training, and consultation with school leaders and staff and ensure implementation of the approach is high quality and effective. To strengthen personal CPS knowledge and practice, this individual will engage in ongoing professional development, training, and coaching with CPS certified trainers. The Social and Emotional Learning Coach will also work closely with the UP Education Network's Director of Social and Emotional Learning and will report to the Managing Director of UP Academy Kennedy.
Specific Responsibilities
Set and execute a clear vision and plan for school-wide CPS implementation at UP Academy Kennedy (grades 6-8)
Lead and differentiate regular on-site CPS professional development, training, and coaching for all school leaders and appropriate staff, including whole-staff, grade/cohort-level, and individual sessions
Use related intervention data, observations, sample assessments, and Plan B conversations to inform overall CPS effectiveness and training needs and tailor coaching
Consult regularly with school-based multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) team, including instructional leaders, student support staff, and teacher leaders, to report relevant data and strengthen school-wide CPS training, coaching, and implementation
Respond urgently and purposefully to emerging staff and/or systemic needs related to CPS implementation
Travel between UP Academy Kennedy and Greater Boston as needed to engage in relevant professional development and training opportunities provided by either Think:Kids or UP Education Network (approximately 1-2 times per month)
Qualifications
A strong belief in UP Education Network's core values: Students, Community, Humility, Resilience, and Humor
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ease facilitating meetings and professional development
Think:Kids CPS certification is strongly preferred
Experience working with children or adolescents; urban school-based experience preferred
School counseling and/or mental health credential strongly preferred, e.g. MA educator certification in social work/adjustment counseling, Master's in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or similar, or BCBA credential
Current authorization to work in the United States - a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment
Compensation and Benefits
Your salary is commensurate with experience; UP Academy follows the salary scales of each UP Academy's host school district.
