Job Description

Atlanta Public Schools is seeking a Coordinator (Teacher Residency Program). The Coordinator is responsible for the development and management of the Atlanta Urban Teacher Residency Program (AUTR). This program provides a pipeline of dedicated new teachers with strong content knowledge in areas of need for the Atlanta Public Schools (APS). The AUTR will recruit, prepare and retain highly skilled secondary (grades 6-12) mathematics (Cohort 1 and Cohort 2), science (Cohort 3 and Cohort 4) and foreign language (Cohort 5) teachers with the instructional skills to teach special education students and English Language Learners (ELL) in the Atlanta Public Schools. This position provides leadership and coordination in the Teacher Residency Program. This position reports to the Director for Organizational and Professional Learning.

CLOSING DATE: October 9, 2009

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate and evaluate the AUTR program. Work to include on-going assessment of the program, create reports and prepare and give presentations on the AUTR program.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with multiple partners, including university partners, principals, mentors, HR/recruiting and professional development staff and external funders.
Work with university partner to develop and manage ambitious residency-based curriculum that ensures first year teachers are well prepared.
Identify and work with mentors, site leaders and host schools to ensure supportive learning environment for residents.
Develop and manage training and induction program that supports teachers through their first four years in the classroom.
EDUCATION:
Master's degree in Education or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of Teaching experience required.
Knowledge of student achievement data, financial models, and establishing and tracking performance metrics a plus.

CERTIFICATION:
T5-T7 Georgia Professional Certification required.
Leadership endorsement preferred (L5-L7)
