Job Description
DC Bilingual Public Charter School and CentroNía are recruiting a physical education and sports teacher to provide learning opportunities to our students. We are seeking motivated person focused on student learning, developing leadership, and valuing all cultures. An ideal candidate believes that all children can learn and develop at high levels. The work days includes class time, planning time, and professional development during 10:00AM to 6:00PM, Monday through Friday. A traditional school year calendar will be observed. However, the teacher would have the opportunity to teach during camp experiences scheduled for Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks.

Purpose
To provide Prek and Elementary instruction in the areas of physical education, movement, and sports at DC Bilingual Public Charter School and within the CentroNía Studio ROCKS Afterschool program.

Primary Responsibilities
-Design and teach physical education, movement, and sports classes to students in grade PreK-5th.
-Align instruction with the National Standards for Physical Education, for students in grades PreK-5th.
-Maintain regular verbal and written communication with the classroom lead teachers, program directors and coordinators, as well as parents and guardians of students.
-Must be proficient in administrative and documentation skills (i.e., MS Word, email, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and able to produce their own written reports.
-To monitor shared areas such as bathroom, playgrounds and van for health and safety hazards.
-To support the school by completing other duties as assigned by the principal and Studio ROCKS leadership.
-To promote respect for culturally and linguistically diverse families and children.
-Build a partnership with families, encouraging their active participation in students’ learning.
-Provide adaptive physical education services to students with intellectual disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, orthopedic impairments, or other disabling condition.
-Communicate behavioral observations and student progress reports to students, parents, teachers, or administrators.
-Establish and maintain standards of behavior to create safe, orderly, and effective environments for learning.
-Maintain inventory of instructional equipment, materials, or aids.
-Maintain thorough student records to document attendance, participation, or progress, ensuring confidentiality of all records.
-Prepare lesson plans in accordance with individualized education plans (IEPs) and the functional abilities or needs of students. .
-Write reports to summarize student performance, social growth, or physical development.
-Attend in-service training, workshops, or meetings to keep abreast of current practices or trends in physical education.
-Request or order physical education equipment, following standard procedures.

Required Experience:
Experience teaching physical education to children ages 3-11 in urban, predominantly low-income Latino, African-American, and multicultural communities.


Required Education:
Fully Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred, but not required.
BA in Physical Education passing scores according to DC requirements;
Teaching certification preferred; Physical Education Certification a plus Masters or Bachelor degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, Special Education or equivalent (preferred)
