This position is being advertised simultaneously to the public and to current District Teachers in accordance with the JEA Negotiated Agreement .

TEACHING POSITION : Requires Alaska teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement (s) (for information visit: http://www.eed.state.ak.us/TeacherCertification ). When appropriate, must be willing and able to test for the NCLB highly-qualified standard(s).
Position Summary : This position will work closely with existing school resources and community resources to address the needs of our Extended Learning and other high performing students. Duties will include supporting the EL Plan Program in both Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School and Floyd Dryden Middle School by facilitating the identification of gifted students, developing student learning plans, and collaborating with regular classroom teachers in the modification and/or differentiation of curricula by meeting regularly with house/learning teams to review targeted academic needs and goals.
Duties may also include coordinating monthly/quarterly Speaker Series provided for parents and teachers on topics such as social emotional needs of the gifted and underachieving gifted; monthly student meetings, and providing transition counseling and services to incoming 5th grade students and 8th grade students transitioning to high school. This position will also participate on the district-level Extended Learning Review Team to support eligibility determinations, and participate on the district Extended Learning Parent Advisory Committee.
The successful candidate must be able to build relationships with students, staff, and parents, and must be flexible, sincere, and positive.
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid Alaska teaching certificate.
- Federally high qualified or willing to test for the NCLB highly-qualified standard(s).
Preferred Requirements:
Excellent organizational skills and follow through are essential Ability to work well with and train tutors. Prefer experience working in middle and/or high school setting.
