The Reading Specialist works collaboratively with the Principal and will provide leadership to teachers by modeling lessons, coaching, providing feedback and reflection opportunities, assisting with the implementation of assessments, analyzing data, reporting results, and making recommendations for program modifications.
The successful candidate will be certified as a reading specialist and have experience teaching reading or language arts to middle school or elementary students. A Masters Degree in Reading is preferred. The Reading Specialist must be an excellent communicator, proficient with technology and be able to work in a collaborative environment.
The Reading Specialist should be knowledgeable about scientifically based reading research related to the five essential components of early reading and know the characteristics of adult learners when explaining theory-based instructional practices to teachers. In addition this person must understand and be able to interpret reading assessments and link data analysis of reading assessments to specific instructional practices.
