The Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA) is located on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) under the direction of the Division of Student Programs of Los Angeles County Office of Education. The school is the first public high school to provide specialized arts instruction to highly motivated students from districts throughout Los Angeles County. The school offers specialized training to selected students in one of four specific arts areas (dance, music, visual arts, and theatre). It is not unusual for students to graduate with more than a year of college credit completed since many attend college concurrently.
Reporting to the Deputy Superintendent of the Los Angeles County Office of Education, the Principal will supervise two assistant principals, two counselors, two accounting staff, the registrar, attendance staff, and support staff. There are 29 academic and 82 arts faculty members with chairs of the departments of Music, Dance, Visual Arts, and Theatre.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated passion for the arts, an appreciation of the value of the arts to society and to the individual. The ideal candidate will be able to engage the entire school community within an urban setting.
This individual will be an integral component to fundraising campaigns administered by the LACHSA Foundation. Experience in the arts is desirable. Candidates should show evidence of accomplishment in the following activities: faculty/staff development, curriculum development, teacher-staff evaluation, student-parent-alumni relations, community and external relations, student activities, management, and Board relations. A Master’s degree in education and a valid Administrative Services Credential authorizing services as a K-12 principal are required.
