SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
Orleans Parish School District
New Orleans, LA | www.opsb.us
The Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) seeks a highly competent leader to oversee a unique School District that serves approximately 11,000 students in New Orleans in 20 schools (6 direct-run and 14 charter schools). After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the State Legislature restructured the New Orleans Public Schools, assigning governance authority for these 20 well performing schools to the OPSB and 68 underperforming schools to the State Recovery School District (RSD) – (currently 5 direct-run and 63 charter schools), with the intent of having the RSD schools return to the OPSB after they assumed acceptable academic performance. After the restructuring, many of the schools have experienced significant improvement. The desired superintendent must have superior leadership and management skills and a high tolerance for ambiguity as s/he leads the District, under the governance guidance of the OPSB, on the trajectory of continued improvement and reunification. S/he must demonstrate a thorough understanding of both direct-run and charter schools and the successful engagement of parents, community organizations and many other interested stakeholders in determining a commonly held vision and long-term direction for the schools.
Competitive compensation. Screening of applications in mid-to-late January. For additional information about the District, go to www.opsb.us; for application information or to apply online, go to www.ecragroup.com/hya-executive-search.
