Founding High School Principal
Charter School for Global Leadership | Camden NJ 08100 USA | Full Time - 12 Month | Revised: 02/08/2013
Position: School Leader/Principal
Organization:CharterSchool for Global Leadership
Location: Camden,New Jersey
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to become the founding leader of a new charter high school in Camden, NJ that focuses on the Hospitality and Tourism industry with a mission to prepare students to master academic, social, and professional skills that will position them for global economic leadership.
The Charter School for Global Leadership (CSGL) is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and committed principal to provide leadership for all aspects of the school, including teaching and learning, school culture and climate, community outreach, and operations.
The mission of CSGL is to prepare high school students in Camden to master academic, social, and professional skills that will position them for global economic leadership. Our mission will be realized when 100% of our students are prepared and indicate a strong desire to transition into an intensive post-graduation program, including a 4-year college, an industry career training program, or entrepreneurial training. The school will open this fall with 150 9th graders and will expand through 12th grade over the next four years. At full capacity the school will serve 600 high school students in the City of Camden.
Students who graduate from the CSGL will leave having built a resume of:
1) Academic Success
2) Business and Career Experiences
3) Character and Ethical Leadership Practices
The CSGL curriculum delivery approach will be modeled after successful Career Academies models. In these small learning communities, groups of students share the same cadre of core subject teachers. Our charter school will already be a small learning community but we see value in breaking that down even further to ensure that meaningful adult-student relationships are developed, character development can be monitored more effectively, and that we foster the teamwork and collaboration that is necessary in a business environment. Instruction will always be linked to business and career experiences. Teachers will plan lessons collaboratively to help students gain a holistic understanding of how all of their courses relate to each other, their industry courses, and their internships.
The specific theme of CSGL focuses on the Hospitality and Tourism industry. Hospitality and Tourism is the world’s largest and most dynamic industry employing more than 220 million people in North America alone. It offers unlimited career opportunities that require an array of talents and skills. Our program will expose students to as many opportunities as possible but focus primarily on management and entrepreneurial opportunities. Many colleges in New Jersey and the surrounding states (e.g. Cornell University, Montclair State University, George Washington University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Temple University) offer rigorous academic programs that lead to bachelor degrees in hospitality management. Our students will be prepared to enter the pipeline to gain admission into high-quality universities like these.
The Principal will be responsible for carrying out the mission and the vision of the school and will lead all areas, including teaching and learning, school culture and climate, community outreach, and operations. The successful candidate must be an academic leader with proven results and the ability to set high standards, delegate, and evaluate. This is a 12-month position that offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.
We are looking for the following qualifications in our candidates:
- Masters degree in education or related area
