The School Committee of the Brewer, Maine Public Schools invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Daniel Lee will be retiring at the end of the academic year after serving the district as Superintendent for eight years. Brewer is a suburban community located in Penobscot County in eastern Maine.
The pre-K-12 school department houses approximately 1,700 students in two well-maintained buildings: the newly dedicated Brewer Community School (pre-K-8); and Brewer High School (grades 9-12). The Brewer School Department is associated with the Community of Caring Program which encourages a positive and supportive atmosphere in which to work and learn. Brewer has a population of 9,500 and was incorporated in 1889. The city has a rich history founded upon working men and women who understand the value of family and friends. Brewer once was a center for brick manufacturing, shipbuilding and the lumber industry. Today it is a modern community hosting numerous businesses. It is also a community where residents enjoy access to nearby recreational areas including the beautiful city waterfront, parks and a performing arts center, as well as the academic, cultural and sports activities offered at the University of Maine.

Several district-wide senior team members, including a Director of Business and Finance, Director of Instruction, Director of Pupil Services, and District IT Director assist the Superintendent in leading and managing the district.
The next Superintendent of the Brewer Public Schools must have a thorough understanding of teaching practices, and the ability to articulate a vision for preparing students for success in a global society. She/he must have a proven ability to work collaboratively with local government officials and the capacity to connect with and involve all stakeholders in the district. Good business acumen is essential. Qualified candidates must have strong central office experience combined with a background in teaching. An advanced graduate degree is required. Maine superintendent certification or eligibility for certification is necessary.
The Brewer School District is prepared to provide a multi-year contract with a regionally competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
