Friday Harbor Elementary School Principal

The San Juan Island School District is seeking a dynamic K-6 Elementary School Principal to lead Friday Harbor Elementary School, a high performing school of 383 student FTE, located 100 miles north of Seattle on beautiful San Juan Island (reached by Washington State Ferries from Anacortes).   The school enjoys broad community support and benefits from many community-based learning experiences for students.

Required Qualifications 

  • Masters degree and valid Washington State Principal Certificate
  • Successful teaching experience
  • Demonstrated competence in educational leadership (ISLLC Standards)

  • Successful experience as an elementary school principal
  • Successful elementary school teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and openly with staff, parents and the community
  • Successful experience promoting and maintaining high expectations and clear academic standards for our learning community
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to navigate school reform
  • Knowledgeable about the school’s curricular programs
  • Successful experience analyzing performance data to improve instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a talented staff toward common goals
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership for selection, placement, professional development and evaluation of staff
  • Knowledge and experience working with highly capable and special needs students, behavioral issues, accommodations and related laws
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a nurturing climate for students including a plan for proactive discipline
  • Experience promoting a safe, civil and productive environment
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership for multiple models of classroom organization including teaming, looping, and multi-age classrooms
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology effectively to improve instruction
  • Successful experience managing building financial resources and facilities, and obtaining financial and volunteer support from the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, design schedules maximizing instructional time, and to make effective use of staff meetings
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology effectively to improve instruction 

Compensation 

The successful candidate and District will negotiate the final compensation package. 

$91,500 – $96,500 (213 days) is the starting salary range.
