Say Yes to Education is a national nonprofit foundation with a 23-year record of dramatically improving the graduation rates among urban at-risk students. It is seeking to fill two positions for its New York City office. The foundation provides students with services and support needed to be successful during their public school careers. The Student Development and Support Services Director is responsible for developing an assessment of students’ academic, social/emotional, and skill development needs, and for coordinating and providing appropriate services. The Director monitors student progress in preparation for admission to high school and college and intervenes with services, as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience as a secondary school counselor, a school social worker, and/or a secondary school teacher in an urban area working with at-risk students; be familiar with the requirements of the New York City public high school admission process, the choice system, and the New York State Common Core Standards; and have experience with the case management/case conferencing approach to monitoring student progress. Proficiency in Spanish is desired.
The Assistant Director for Academic Services and Programs, in cooperation with Chapter staff and the schools, assesses students’ academic needs; monitors performance; coordinates academic interventions; develops and implements academic services; and engages parents in supporting students’ academic progress. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the New York City educational system, the New York State Common Core Standards, and state assessments; expertise in developing programs that address multiple barriers to learning; experience in supervising professional staff; and a collaborative management and leadership style.
