Teacher Education & Research Associate
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) is seeking a Teacher Education & Research Associate. NCTM is a nonprofit association and a public voice of mathematics education, providing vision, leadership, and professional development to teachers. With nearly 80,000 members, NCTM is the world’s largest organization dedicated to improving math education for all students. NCTM is conveniently located in Reston, VA. This exempt position reports to the Associate ED for Research, Learning and Development.
The Teacher Education & Research Associate will lead and support the programs, products and services of the Council associated with Research Activities and Teacher Education. This position will:
- Lead and support Teacher Education Program Accreditation efforts associated with the training of mathematics teachers and leaders.
- Support the development and publication of the Mathematics Teacher Educator journal through collaboration with the panel and editor.
- Work with Council leaders, staff, researchers and practitioners to synthesize and summarize existing research that supports NCTM’s mission and objectives; products and services. The primary focus will be on research that links to mathematics education practice.
- Advance the Council’s ability to communicate by connecting research and practices. Develop multiple lines of communication, targeted at distinct audiences.
- Collaborate to secure external funding for Council projects including the design, development and implementation of research projects consistent with the priorities of the Council through work with staff and volunteers.
- Serve as the Staff Liaison to the Research Committee; and coordinate with other committees and task forces as assigned. Support the work of these groups, to include the development and production of the Research Presession Program and Conference.
- Participate in additional research and teacher education related activities of the Council.
Qualifications:
Academic: Doctoral degree in mathematics education or related field
Experience: 5+ years of experience in a research/teacher education-related environment with demonstrated experience in teacher education and research.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to strategically design, develop and implement grants
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with audiences of all levels inside and outside of mathematics education.
- Broad understanding of teacher education, research in mathematics education and related fields.
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels of leadership, volunteers, and staff
- Wide range of experiences within mathematics education
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Minimal travel
