Assistant Principal Grades 7-9 (Start date: July 2013)

 The Hunter College Campus Schools, nationally celebrated K-12 public schools for intellectually gifted students governed by Hunter College of the City University of New York, has an opening for Assistant Principal (Grades 7-9). 



Provides leadership in educating gifted and talented students at Hunter College Campus Schools in grades 7-9:
- Advocates for student, faculty and parent concerns
- Devises and oversees interventions for students in academic distress
- Documents and administers student disciplinary issues
- Oversees grade-specific non-departmental programs

- Oversees master schedule and all functions of the student information system for grades 7-12
- Observes classroom teachers as Principal's designee as per policies and Bylaws
- Visits classrooms in a non-evaluative capacity to support teachers and the work of the school leadership in instructional improvement
- Supports and advises Principal as needed; carries out other designated administrative/organizational tasks
- Participates in weekly Administrative Council meetings and Leadership Team meetings and helps prepare for monthly Faculty meetings


A Master’s degree and three years’ teaching experience.  New York State certification as a School Administrator Supervisor (SAS), School Building Leader (SBL), or School District Administrator (SDA) preferred and required within the first four years of employment.


Supervisory experience in a school setting; experience working with intellectually gifted students; a vision for creating a middle school experience within a grade 7-12 school; experience working with school counselors and learning specialists to assist students in need.


Hunter College Campus Schools follows the salary guidelines of the New York City Department of Education. This is a 12-month, Assistant Principal position.
