Director of Organizational Leadership & Development

Magnet Schools of America (MSA) is seeking a talented and purpose-driven Director of Organizational Leadership & Development.  Magnet Schools of America, a national non-profit based in Washington, DC, is focused on promoting excellence and equity in education through the use and expansion of magnet and theme-based schools.  Our ideal candidate will flourish in a team-oriented environment that is collaborative, mission driven, and fast-paced.  Our office is located in the heart of downtown DC, accessible by metro, and just a few blocks from the White House.   

Magnet Schools of America is looking for an energetic leader who will enhance our team through the development of the National Institute for Magnet School Leadership (NIMSL) as well as serve as the organizational point person for development and fundraising through corporate and private foundations.  

The National Institute for Magnet School Leadership provides members and non-members with technical support and learning opportunities for magnet school principals, teachers, and district level administrators on a fee for service basis. The development side of the position is intertwined and will enhance the portfolio of funding opportunities available to Magnet Schools of America to provide these services to our membership.

This position is located in Washington, DC and residence in the metropolitan area is required.  Interviews are tentatively scheduled for January 3-4, 2013.  Application Deadline: December 15, 2012.

Employment Focus:

  • Develop and facilitate high quality training for adult learners that is focused, engaging, research based, and promotes the development and sustainability of high performing magnet schools. 
  • Collaborate with Regional Directors, school districts, and principals to identify professional development and technical assistance needs that can be provided through MSA on a fee for service basis.
  • Collaborate with our members and Board of Directors to design, test, implement, and continually improve a magnet school certification process.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with vital partners within the public school choice community, government, foundations, and similarly missioned non-profits.
  • Identify and pursue support from foundations for programming sponsored by MSA.  This also includes the ongoing development and maintenance of grant opportunities for members through our website.
  • Network within the research community to bring forth published research on magnet schools, segregation, and education reform.

Promote MSA as the leading organization for school innovation, choice, diversity, and equity through high quality communications, conferences, publications, and public engagement.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Education or related field.
  • 5+ years in a magnet school setting as a leader within the school or district.
  • Experience pursuing and managing grants and funding from foundations and corporate donors, as well as contract management and oversight.
  • Understanding and familiarity of the history and purpose of magnet schools and theme-based schools, as well as the research about them.
  • Understand how race and equity play critical roles in the purpose and function of magnet schools in the 21st Century.
  • Experience leading and organizing professional development for school administrators and teachers.

Compensation:

MSA will offer a compensation package that is based on experience. Benefits are competitive and comprehensive and subject to Board approval.
